Three Phase Centrifuge
A
three phase
centrifuge is a
machine used to separate two or more substances that have different
densities. Possibly two liquids or a liquid and a solid. The three
phase centrifuge is generally driven by a motor that puts the
substances in rotation around a fixed axis that applies a force
perpendicular to the axis. These mixtures are spun at a very high speed.
A prime example of how these are used is test tubes containing blood
specimens. They are set in the rotating part of the

in holders. These test tubes are arranged so that they swing into a
slanted or horizontal position with the open ends toward the axis of
rotation. The heavier part of the blood is thrown outward to the bottom
of the tube and the lighter part of the blood comes to the top of the
