Three Phase Grain Dryer
A
three phase
grain dryer is used
to dry the grain after it has been harvested and put into the grain
auger and bin for storage. The three phase grain dryer normally
consists of a bin that has heated air that flows horizontally from a
narrow cylinder through a perforated metal sheet that is placed in the
center of the bin. The air passes through a path of grain that is
usually around .50m deep in a radial direction and then leaves the
three phase grain dryer through another perforated metal sheet. The
drying time on three phase grain dryer is usually 1 to 4 hours and this
depends on how much moisture needs to be removed, the temperature and
the amount of grain depth that is in the three phase grain dryer.
The
three phase grain dryer has an
important role since the major objective is to reduce the moisture
content so that spoilage does not occur before the grain can be used.
The drying mode in a three phase grain dryer reduces the chances
of molds, enzyme activity and insects. If the grain is not dried
properly in the three phase grain dryer, the grain will remain at a low
quality no matter how well it is stored. You don't want to dry the grain
on the three phase grain dryer with really high temperature, as
this can also reduce the quality of the grain.
The most widely used three phase
grain dryer for large grain producers is a continuous flow drying
three phase grain dryer. The drying capacity of this type of
three phase grain dryer generally ranges from 100 to 3000 bushels
per hour for moisture removal. The dried grain is automatically
discharged to the bottom of the three phase grain dryer and the wet
grain is continuously moved to the top of the three phase grain dryer.
The temperature of the air in this type of three phase grain dryer is
relatively high, up to 250 degrees. This temperature is forced through
the lower section and the grain usually remains in the three phase
grain dryer from 2 to 3 hours. The three phase grain dryer has three
different designs for continuous flow dryers. These designs are based on
the direction of airflow which are the cross flow, concurrent flow and
the counter flow.
All three phase grain dryers
must be operated with three phase power. A phase converter would help
out in this situation. The three phase converter takes and converts the
single phase power source into three phase power.
Three phase power is a smoother form of electricity than single phase
power and you will see that your three phase grain dryer will last
longer and run more efficiently using the three phase converter. Always
make sure that it is true three phase power that you are getting. So
many manufacturers tell you that is what they offer in their phase
converters, but it is not. To make sure that you are getting true three
phase power, you will want to make sure that the phase converter has a
3-phase generator with power factor correction to power your three
phase grain dryer.
ACE
Phase
Converter
offers a great three phase converter
that produces power much like a power generation plant
does. All of their three phase converters are manufactured with
the rotary generator with the power factor correction we talked about
having to make sure that you have true three phase power when you
operate your three phase grain dryer. You can't go wrong with ACE
Phase Converter products. They offer a 10 year warranty on each
and every one of them.
