Three Phase Lathe
A three phase lathe is a machine tool
that spins a block of material and performs such various operations such
as cutting, sanding, and drilling. The three phase lathe is used in
woodworking, metalworking, metal spinning and also when you are working
with glass. They have even been known to be used when you are shaping
pottery.
The
three phase lathe that does
woodworking is one of the oldest variety of lathes. Woodworking three
phase lathes design table legs, pool cues, baseball bats, bowls and
plates and many other various pieces. A variety of different cutting
blades can be used on the three phase lathe. They come in
different widths, angles and shapes as this determines the way it will
cut the workpiece on the three phase lathe.
The three phase lathe that is
used for metal working generally uses a carbide tool bit to create the
cutting action. The workpiece is held with a chuck that has jaws that
grip the workpiece at one end and at a pointed center that supports the
center of the workpiece at the other end. This type of three phase
lathe was designed to cut cylindrical metals and is capable of
producing tapered work, screw threads, knurled surfaces, drilled holes
and crankshafts. The metal working three phase lathe is
usually provided with a variable ratio gear train that drives the main
leadscrew. Different pitches of threads to be cut are enabled in this
manner while using the three phase lathe.
Regardless of what type of three
phase lathe you are using, they all must be operated with three
phase power. Some types of three phase lathes are computer
operated and you would need to use a CNC phase converter to obtain three
phase power to this type. If the three phase lathe is not
computer operated, then a true three phase rotary phase converter would
be ideal to operate the equipment. A phase converter is basically a
system that will take the single phase power source and convert it into
true three phase power. A single phase converter can provide a
continuous, reliable source of three phase power to more than one piece
of equipment. The phase converter works by using it's own motor to
generate the third, high leg of power which then passes on the other two
legs of power that is provided by the single phase power source. All
quality true three phase converters will always have that 3-phase rotary
generator with power factor correction. This ensures that your three
phase lathe is getting true three phase power that is balanced, safe
and efficient.
Finding a good quality manufacturer
of a phase converter can sometimes be difficult because there are so
many of them that say they provide true three phase power but in
reality, they do not. All they are basically providing you with is
enough three phase power to only start your three phase lathe up.
This could result in burnout and complete damage to the three phase
lathe. One recommended manufacturer that has been given a 5-star
rating in the true three phase power industry is ACE
Phase
Converter. They designed each and every phase
converter with the true three phase power in mind. They have perfected
true three phase power, one might say. ACE Phase Converter has been in
business solving three phase solutions, worldwide, for over 25 years.
