Three Phase Printing Press
The
three phase printing press is a machine that applies pressure to
a surface that is inked and then transfers the image to paper. The paper
is fed through the three phase printing press as one continuous
stream that is pulled from rolls of paper. The size of the paper rolls
on a three phase printing press can weigh up to one ton. The
paper, once printed on, is cut to size. Some three phase printing
presses can be printed on with pre-cut paper that are sheet fed
rather than the rolls of paper.
Three phase printing presses
can print at very high speeds like up to 50,000 impressions per hour.
Ink is distributed to plates on the
three phase printing press, which
is done through a series of rollers. Water rollers are used to dampen
the plates first and then they are dampened by the ink rollers on the
three phase printing press. The plates have an image area that picks
up the ink from the ink rollers and the water rollers will keep the ink
off of the non-image area of the plate. After this is done, then the
plate will transfer the image to what we call a rubber blanket and from
there, the image will then get transferred to the paper on the three
phase printing press. Again, this all happens at a very high speed.
After the image has been applied to
the paper, it goes through an oven to prevent any smudging of the ink to
the paper on the three phase printing press. As soon as the paper
leaves the oven, it then goes through large metal rollers that have cold
water flowing through them. The chill rollers cool the paper down and
completely set the ink into the paper. Now that this is done, the large
rolls of paper that are now printed on, go to bindery, which is where
the paper is cut and put together in the correct order on the three
phase printing machine.
To operate safely and
efficiently, a three phase printing press should be operated with
true three phase power. You could have a utility company come in and
install three phase power, but you are looking at spending thousands of
dollars to have this done. The most economical way to achieve
three phase power would be to invest in a true three phase converter.
This device will give the three phase printing press true three
phase power, actually better than the utility company could provide. A
phase converter takes the single phase power source and converts it into
three phase power. Three circuits are used in the phase converter system
to carry three alternating currents of the same frequency. All
three of these circuits reach instantaneous peak values at three
different times. Each circuit in a three phase power load will carry
electrical current that operates in three different phases. The
end result is a constant flow of electricity which becomes a balanced
power load with an uninterrupted flow of current. A true three phase
converter will always have a 3-phase generator with power factor
correction.
One of the best phase converters on
the market today is manufactured by ACE
Phase
Converter. This company has been designing three
phase power solutions for more than 25 years. All of their products are
given a 10 year warranty. Their specialized technicians will help
you determine what size phase converter you will need to power any
equipment or your three phase printing press. ACE Phase Converter
has perfected three phase power so that your equipment will last you for
more than 35 years.
