Three Phase Refrigeration Compressor
The three phase refrigeration
compressor is the heart of a refrigeration system. Pumping
refrigerant is the function of the three phase refrigeration
compressor. The three phase refrigeration compressor controls
pressure to cause the refrigerant to flow in order to meet the cooling
requirements of the unit.
A powerful motor usually drives a
piston or a high speed fan that compresses the refrigerant to a higher
pressure on the
three phase refrigeration compressor.
Once the heat is absorbed, the refrigerant loses pressure and the three
phase refrigeration compressor will increase the pressure by
compressing it even further. The three phase refrigeration
compressors are used in industrial type refrigeration systems and
industrial type of air conditioning systems.
There are basically four types of
three phase refrigeration compressors. They are as follows:
Reciprocating three phase
refrigeration compressors - piston style, positive displacement
Rotary screw three phase refrigeration compressors - positive
displacement, two screw rotors rotate in opposite directions which trap
refrigerant vapor. They reduce the volume of the refrigerant along the
rotors to a discharge point.
Centrifugal three phase refrigeration compressors - dynamic
compressors. They raise of the refrigerant by dynamic energy and use a
rotating impeller and convert it to pressure energy.
Scroll three phase refrigeration compressors - positive
displacement. The refrigerant is compressed with one spiral that orbits
around a second spiral, thus creating smaller pockets and much higher
pressure.
The three phase refrigeration
compressor was designed to operate with true three phase power.
In order to do that, a phase converter could be used. A true three phase
converter will have a 3-phase rotary generator with power factor
correction to ensure that you are receiving true three phase power. The
true three phase converter uses it's own motor to generate the third,
high leg of power. It then passes on the other two legs of power that is
already provided by the single phase power source. The three phase
